Position Overview
A growing commercial real estate company in Baltimore is seeking an experienced Controller to lead and oversee all accounting and financial operations. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role ideal for a real estate accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and is excited to help scale a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, month-end and year-end close, and financial reporting
- Lead and mentor an accounting team; provide training, guidance, and performance management
- Manage property accounting for a commercial real estate portfolio, including CAM reconciliations and operating expense recoveries
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure accurate accruals, reconciliations, and compliance with GAAP
- Partner with ownership and senior leadership to provide financial insights, reporting, and analysis
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders
- Establish and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures as the company grows
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
- 8+ years of accounting experience with commercial real estate property accounting
- Prior supervisory or management experience required
- Strong knowledge of property-level financials, CAM, recoveries, and lease structures
- Experience in a growing or entrepreneurial real estate environment strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel and real estate accounting system experience
